- 8 teaspoons cornflour
- 2 ½ teaspoons curry powder
- 2 teaspoons Chinese Five Spice powder
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon ground garlic
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 4 ½ teaspoons light soy sauce
- ½ cup chicken broth divided
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 onion sliced
- 2 potatoes peeled, halved, and sliced
Instructions
- Mix the curry powder, Chinese five-spice powder, ground ginger and garlic in a bowl. Add in half portion of the cornflour and mix thoroughly.
- Heat a wok or large skillet before pouring in the oil. Let the oil heat until shimmering. Add the dry mixture into the hot oil. Continue to stir the mixture until the fragrance of the spices come out.
- Then, add in soy sauce and chicken broth. Stir in the onion and potatoes. Let the sauce come to a boil before reducing heat. Add the other half of the cornflour, sugar and salt.
- Let the mixture simmer on medium heat for a while. Finally, let it cool and serve immediately with chips or as desired. Enjoy!

Close to the real thing, I'd recommend pouring in the stock first before the soy sauce. Not adding salt if adding fish sauce. Adding a one (maybe 1 and half) of the Chinese spice. Keep on a low heat when mixing oil and dry mix. Finally throw some peas in there at the end
