Every time Hanyi, the founder of Snack Snack UK goes back to Asia for a holiday, she would bring back tons of super delicious Asian snacks that she couldn’t find in Europe.
Hanyi first came to the UK about 20 years ago. She is now living in London with her 2 lovely kids.
During the first lockdown, she found out that it was so important for her kids to have everyday exercise, entertainment, and of course, SNACKS!
As there was no online shop in the UK that sold Asian snacks covering China, Japan and Korea; Hanyi came across the idea in her head, “How about starting one herself!”
And with that Snack Snack UK was formed. Hanyi created a company that provides authentic snacks from these regions.
The most popular products from Snack Snack UK are their snack boxes which provide a variety of the most desired Asian snacks. Snack Snack UK is an eCommerce company based in London, that ships snacks across the UK.
Honest Food Talks interviewed Hanyi to learn more about her story on starting and running Snack Snack UK.
1) Where did the idea for Snack Snack UK come from?
I have always been fond of Asian Snacks, they bring so many memories as I grew up. And I would like to introduce Asian culture to the UK through the best snacks from Asia.
I also see a healthy demand for oriental snacks and I would like to offer a good online experience for snack lovers who want to try different things.
As a company that was born during the stressful COVID times, I hope that these tasty and delicious snacks could brighten up someone’s day.
2) What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
The days spent at Snack Snack UK are pretty busy.
In a nutshell, we pack snacks and ship them to our customers across the UK. We also do research on trends and current favourite Asian Snacks and curate the best new products from our suppliers.
In addition, we pay a lot of attention to our stocks, ensuring they are up to date. We also keep trying to come up with different snack boxes to introduce people to a wider variety of snacks.
3) What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive?
“Keep calm and carry on.”
It is normal to sometimes feel overwhelmed with work. My motto is to stay calm, list the things I need to do, and prioritize them. And then just do them one by one. This is how I carry on.
3) What advice would you give your younger self?
If I could talk to my younger self, I would tell her to go take her time to explore the world more. Discover herself through new cultures and new experiences.
Tell her to take her time and be patient. Life is beautiful and so it should be enjoyed.
I would also tell her to always bring an extra snack wherever she goes just in case, just like Snack Snack UK can provide today!
4) What is the one thing you do over and over again and recommend everyone else do?
Always set a list of goals and challenges for yourself and then strategize, plan, and work hard to achieve them.
5) What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.
To me, building a relationship with customers while providing the best customer service is very important.
Our job is to make the customers happy no matter what.
6) What’s one trend in the F&B industry that excites you?
I’m excited that more offerings in the Asian food category mean there is a transformation ongoing in the market. Many more new and popular products are being introduced to Europe faster.
A good example is milk tea. With high demands, come creative innovations. As a result, we see so many different unique flavours being created.
7) What is the best £20 you recently spent? What and why?
It’s difficult to choose just one, but there are a few affordable hand tools, such as tape gun, box cutters and scissor that has helped me pack the boxes faster.
It might be trivial, but the amount of time and money saved from these tools is incomparable to the amount of money purchase for the tools.
8) What is your favourite quote?
There is one quote from Sam Walton;
“The goal as a company is to have customer service that is not just the best, but LEGENDARY.’
I really like this quote and this has motivated me to work hard to give the best service to my customers.
9) What are some of your favourite places to eat at?
I really enjoy the food and the service at Royal China Club, Chisou, and Wagamama.
I highly recommend these three Asian restaurants for anyone who visits London.
10) What’s the best thing to order from Snack Snack UK?
I suggest buying ‘Japan and Korea Snack Box’.
There are 26 pieces of the absolute favourite snacks from Japan and Korea in 1 box. So you get to try so many different delicious snacks that will sweeten up your day!
