Spicy chicken recipes are one of the most searched for recipes on the internet for a good reason. Chicken is one of the most readily available and easy to cook types of protein. Meanwhile, spice adds a delicious kick of heat to any meal. In particular, food from Asia and the Caribbean intensifies a dish in many ways due to the spices and seasonings that go with it.

If you want a fiery kick, dishes from these regions would be perfect to make in the kitchen. Why? The spicy dishes from countries such as Jamaica and Korea range from mild to very hot and can benefit a person’s health. Asian and Caribbean dishes tend to focus on bringing flavour with spice instead of outright burning your stomach.

This list presents five easy spicy chicken recipes to make in under 30 minutes in less than 7 steps that will bring more spice into your life! We'll also show you how to add your own twist to them; adding a different protein!

What does spicy food taste like?

A first-timer may experience pain on the tongue if they are not accustomed to hot sauce or seasoning on the food. Depending on the dish and a person’s taste buds, it’s a mix of a fiery sensation with a zesty, savoury taste. But with every bite, that spicy feeling can grow. For those who aren't used to spicy food, you can start by adding trying some spicy condiments such as chilli flakes, sweet chilli sauce to your meals. Once you're used to the flavours, try making a mildly spicy dish like yuzo kosho chicken for dinner!

Nutrition and Benefits of Eating Spicy Food

There are many nutrition values and benefits to eating spicy food. Your metabolism increases at a fair rate and can help burn calories. Spicy food also helps to improve your digestive fluids in the stomach and can fend off infections within your immune system to help reduce a person’s risk of diseases.

Spicy Beef

There’s lots of people who focus on “chilli chicken” or “spicy pork” but chilli beef is perfect as a delicious food to eat.

  • 1 red chilli peppers
  • 1 teaspoon of mixed herbs
  • 1 teaspoon of Salt
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of Chilli powder
  • Basmati rice
  • Beef strips

Method

  1. The beef strips will take the longest so immediately start frying it in oil to brown for 10 minutes.
  2. Add the onions, garlic, and chilli peppers in as well as the seasoning.
  3. Boil the rice while everything is frying in a separate pot or rice cooker.
  4. Once the beef is brown, please add water to be the same level as the food.
  5. Add thickening granules if the beef sauce falls off the spoon as it needs to be thick.
  6. Once the rice is cooked and the beef is tender, immediately serve on a plate.

Chilli Yakisoba

Yakisoba is usually a simple, quick dish but once you add some chillies into it, the taste intensifies, and you will never see yakisoba in the same way again!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack of yakisoba noodles
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of chilli powder
  • 1 garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger paste
  • 1 sweet pepper
  • 1 pack of shrimp
  • 1 chicken breast
  • 3 spring onions
  • Beni Shoga (Red ginger)
  • Sesame oil
  • Yakisoba sauce
  • Oyster sauce

Method

  1. Bring a large pot of water to boil. While it is boiling, cut up the spring onion, garlic, red ginger, and red sweet peppers.
  2. In a bowl, mix the yakisoba sauce, chilli powder, oyster sauce and seasoning.
  3. Boil the yakisoba noodles in sesame oil and then drain when done.
  4. Cook the shrimp and chicken in oil to a separate pan. Then add the vegetables.
  5. Next add the drained noodles along with the cooked chicken and shrimp, then toss in the sauce.

Jerk Chicken

This is a classic dish for Jamaicans. You can pop this in the oven to save some time. A quicker way to get a taste of it! Most definitely one of the must-try spicy chicken recipes on this list!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tomato
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 3 teaspoons of Dunn’s River Jerk seasoning
  • Soy sauce
  • Black pepper
  • White pepper
  • All-spice
  • Salt
  • Thyme

Method

  1. Season the chicken breast along with the tomato, onion, and garlic.
  2. Mix the jerk seasoning with the other ingredients together to be a marinade sauce. The soy sauce makes the chicken a lot darker in colour but also creates a significant taste.
  3. The oven must be set at 180° at the turbo grill function (as pictured above) for the sauce and seasoning to marinade together.
  4. Put water in a baking sheet under the baking tray to steam and grill the chicken.
  5. The marinating should be for 30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. You can check with a knife or a metal skewer (like the ones from the kebabs) if you’re not sure. Additionally, drumsticks and thighs might take 45 minutes.

Burritos

While burritos do originate from Mexico, Cuba also incorporates them into their cuisine with a Cuban twist! The amount of spice mixed in with the salsa can create a fiery flavour that you will grow to love! Commonly, ground beef or pork mince is used in this dish. However, you can also use chicken to turn this into another spicy chicken dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of chilli powder
  • 1 garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • 1 Sweet peppers
  • 2 chilli peppers
  • 2 tortillas
  • Beef/Pork mince
  • Salsa sauce
  • Cheese

Method

  1. In a separate small bowl, add the seasoning as well as the salsa sauce, chilli peppers and sweet peppers.
  2. Brown the mince in a separate pan for 10 minutes with the onions and garlic.
  3. Once done, add in the seasonings together.
  4. Warm the tortilla with cheese inside and add the ingredients.

Japanese Chicken Curry

Japanese curry is a great one as it can have interchangeable ingredients and put it in the dish. This is a mildly spicy chicken curry is very quick and easy to share with others.

Ingredients:

  • Basmati or sushi rice
  • Grated mozzarella
  • 1 onion
  • 1 pieces of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of mixed herbs
  • 1 potato
  • 1 carrot
  • 1-2 chilli peppers
  • 2 tablespoons of Gochujang
  • 2 sliced chicken breast fillets
  • 3 java curry blocks

Method

  1. Firstly, cut up the sliced chicken breast fillets into tiny cubes and place in a hot pot with oil.
  2. While it is cooking make sure to cut up the onion, garlic, chilis, potatoes and carrots.
  3. After the meat is getting browner, add the garlic, onion, chilli peppers and carrots. Boil the rice while everything is cooking for 20 minutes.
  4. Once everything is browning and cooking, please add water to be the same level as the food.
  5. Add the potatoes, seasoning, gochujang and vegetables to the pot and if the water is still low, allow a little more than usual to cover the line of the food.
  6. While the rice is cooking, please add two curry blocks at first. This will dissolve slowly and bring about a good smell with the mixture of vegetables and meat to your curry. Add two more if it is quite watery.
  7. For cheese lovers: To get the cheese-pull effect, serve a little bit of curry, add a layer of cheese then serve the rest of curry on top of it.
