A strawberry matcha smoothie combines the refreshing flavours of strawberries with earthy green tea. This no-added sugar beverage recipe is an excellent alternative to overly sweetened sodas.
We love this smoothie as the strawberry's natural sweetness, and sourness perfectly balances the bitterness of the green tea powder. Moreover, plant-based alternatives, like soy milk, smoothens the overall texture while keeping it low-calorie.

Besides, we also love making this smoothie into a breakfast bowl all the time! This is a simple recipe that brings joy to our mornings, and we're sure this recipe will bring the same for you too!

What is it made of?
Strawberry matcha smoothie is made of red strawberries, Japanese green tea powder, and a smooth plant-based vegan alternative like soy or cashew. Beyond this trio of core ingredients, an array of variations emerges. However, we recommend sticking to the basics and keeping our recipe simple.
Why? For one, these three ingredients create a perfect balance. The sweet acidity of the strawberries balances out the grassy green tea flavour and the richness of nut milk. In addition, they also look great together. You will experience a deep red fruit layer and a brilliant Japanese green tea against a creamy off-white background.

Strawberry Matcha Smoothie Ingredients
To make this healthy beverage, you need fresh strawberries, matcha powder, and a plant-based milk. These ingredients form the ultimate trinity to create this delicious treat!
This strawberry matcha smoothie needs no banana or any other vital components. Other recipes may opt to include many other different ingredients. However, based on our experience, keeping it simple is the best.

While using ceremonial-grade green tea powder is better, we do not recommend it for this recipe. As you mix the green tea layer with the frozen smoothie layer, it becomes hard to distinguish the subtle flavour and texture differences between the types of matcha grade. Hence, using regular green tea powder is sufficient for this recipe.
While you may use regular cow's milk, a plant-based alternative would work better for making this recipe. The fattiness of dairy milk, while creamy and delicious, may make the drink heavy. On the other hand, using a plant-based alternative such as soy, oat, almond, or cashew milk works well. They have a lighter consistency and help to smoothen the texture of the frozen strawberry mix. However, we recommend avoiding coconut milk for this recipe as it, too, has a heavy consistency similar to regular dairy.
How to make a Strawberry Matcha Smoothie
Ultimately, the best aspect of our strawberry matcha smoothie recipe is that you can make a great-tasting, fancy-looking, healthy drink in just a few easy steps. All you need is to blend the ingredients, chill, and pour the mixture into a glass.
Looking for the cafe-style, two-layer, pink-and-green effect? Skip the long lines at your local coffee shop and follow these simple instructions to wow your family and friends:
- Blend the bottom layer of ingredients (strawberries) until smooth.
- Pour mixture into smoothie glasses or jars.
- Freeze for at least 20-30 minutes.
- Blend the nut milk and matcha.
- Pour the green mixture into the top final layer. Enjoy!

As the frozen fruit layer is denser, the green tea milk will not mix with it immediately when you pour it over. However, making this drink into a three-layer beverage is slightly more complex. As the matcha can easily combine with the plant milk, you must be gentle when pouring the tea over the milk. Also, you have to be swift in taking a photo before they mix together!
Are you looking to add another colour to your frozen treat? You can also use blueberries to create another bottom layer. Just repeat steps 1 to 3 to prepare the blue-coloured layer. However, if you would like a more convenient option, you can try a butterfly pea powder to achieve your blue matcha smoothie dreams!
