How Have We Rated These Cities?

The five cities we’ve included below have the top ratings in various data points, including our index that ranks cities and Asian cuisine using Tripadvisor, Yelp, and Google Trends data. Some of these cities have also featured highly on other data sets already published on the internet.

Our index considered a mix of factors that include each city’s Asian restaurants’ availability, popular ratings and Michelin star recognitions. In addition, we also considered the distribution of Asian supermarkets and grocery stores and the popularity of Asian recipes in the area. With this approach, we aim to cover both the commercial demand and communal desire for Asian food within our index.

San Francisco

San Francisco is also home to a high percentage of positively reviewed Asian restaurants. From Chinese food to Korean BBQ, you’re sure to find something that you will like. Some of the best places we could find include Yank Sing (a Chinese, Michelin Star restaurant with impressive Dim Sum), Ryoko’s Japanese Restaurant & Bar (incredible sushi), and Glazier for impressive Thai Fusion desserts!

It’s locations like these that make San Francisco an amazing place to go to if you’re searching for unique, delicious Asian food. It sits a little higher than New York City in terms of customer satisfaction, with a 54% 4-star or higher rating as of 2021. On our data index, San Francisco is the top-rated city to find Asian cuisine, with an index score of 1.00 and a total score of 3.18.

New York City

New York City is one of the most diverse cities in the world. With so many different types of people living there, you can expect all kinds of different cuisine within walking distance at all times! When it comes to Asian food, New York is no different! Foodydata.com conducted a survey in 2021 that looked at Asian restaurant reviews. New York City had a 47% positive review score across its Asian restaurants—and that’s out of over 2,000 restaurants across the city.

If we compare data, our index rated New York much higher on the list, accounting for additional factors like Asian restaurants by capita, and Asian recipe popularity. In the end, New York sits at an index score of 0.96 with a total score of 3.05, making it the second-best city on our index for Asian cuisine.

Oakland

Another Californian city next, and we come to Oakland, which rates third on our index and has some of the best Asian food you can find in the country. It has some really impressively reviewed south-eastern restaurants such as Spicy Joi Mah Mi-Noodles-Lao Street Food, Dabao Singapore, and Nyonya Cafe.

Oakland is known as a city that is beloved by foodies across the nation, and the high standards of Asian restaurants across the city are just one of the many reasons. Oakland ranks a little lower on our index, with a total index of 0.89 and a total score of 2.83.

Las Vegas

Fourth on our list is Las Vegas, Nevada, which has an incredible number of Asian restaurants with a total of 415, many of which are located at the famous Strip. Las Vegas is a haven for some of the best artisanal Asian restaurants you’ll find around, including the X Pot, Weera Thai, Arawan Thai Bistro and Dessert, and Benihana Sushi. One of the best things about Las Vegas is the huge wealth of foods from different Asian countries, all within a close radius of one another. In short, Vegas is a great place to go if you want to try different types of food without walking too far!

Our index rated Las Vegas as 4th in the U.S, with an index score of. 0.85 and a total score of 2.71. It doesn’t have the same number of Asian restaurants as New York, or San Francisco, but you can still expect to find some wonderful places to eat the next time you visit.

Los Angeles

Like New York City, Los Angeles, California, has some of the largest pools of Asian cuisine you are likely to encounter across the country. This is due to the sheer size of the city and the diversity of its population. In Los Angeles, you’ll be able to find any type of Asian Cuisine you’ll like and some of the most impressive and diverse sushi restaurants in the country. These include Sushi Gen, Shin, and Sushi Katsu-ya.

Los Angeles is another city that rates very highly on our data index, with a total index score of 0.78 and an overall score of 2.49. Los Angeles also has some of the largest amounts of Asian restaurants in the country, with over 900 in total that we were able to capture in our index.
